Issue Position: About the Issues

Issue Position

I am your champion for public education. Since 2007 I have actively served on the Lufkin ISD Quality School Task Force, Tri-Ethnic Committee, Education Foundation and Board of Trustees and currently serve as President of the Lufkin ISD School Board.
Serving Lufkin ISD in this capacity has given me a full understanding of the needs and challenges facing our students and districts around the state.
As a proud Republican, I believe serving on the State Board of Education will allow me to continue what I set out to do: to provide a better education for my grandchildren and for the future leaders of this great State.
When elected to the State Board of Education, I will continue to stand for conservative education values and to tackle the issues facing our district now:
* Texas must be at the forefront of providing a 21st Century education and empowering local districts to meet the needs of their communities.
* Texans understand how best to educate Texas children without interference from the federal government. Local school boards understand the needs of their children better than anyone else.
* Teachers in the state of Texas chose this profession for the love of teaching, not for the love of testing. If we will let teachers do what they know how to do best, our children will be successful.
We must prepare our children for a world that is rapidly changing. Everything we do must be focused on the parents, the teachers, and the children in our district. I am proud to have served the 8,300 students at Lufkin ISD and look forward to applying the real world experience I've gained to benefit the five million students in Texas Schools.
